Funny Faces II

Back by popular demand... Funny Faces and some gestures too!

Spring Buds

Callan's tree is starting to bud!  Hard to see, but it's there.

Little Red Rocking Chair

The cute little rocking chair in Callan's room is a gift from my grandparents.  The chair was once my Aunt Linda's when she was a child.  The chair had been in my grandparents attic for a few decades at least.  It had some damage and a couple coats of paint on it. After taking a closer look we discovered that the chair was hand made.  My Grandmother told me the chair was red originally and at some point she repainted it.  I liked the idea of a little red rocking chair to coordinate with Callan's room and taking it back to its original color seemed to be the obvious way to go.
Here is the chair after some repair work, sanding and repainting.  I plan on making a cute little pillow for the chair.  This will hopefully be where we take Callan's month by month pictures.

Look a like

Who does Callan look the most like?  Ryan's new born picture on the right and my picture on the left... put your hands up if you think Callan looks most like daddy ;)

Birth Announcement

The birth announcements have been sent!  I love the way they turned out.  The photographer in the hospital did a great job.  I was most excited about being able to customize the colors of the announcement to match Baby C's hat.

Hair Accesories

I have personally never been a fan of the HUGE bows on babies.  No offense to anyone, more power to the babies and moms that rock the BIG BOWS.  It's just not my style.  I prefer something a bit more understated and personal with a little bit of vintage handmade flare.  Of course to have all of these qualities I would have to make them myself.  So I started to look up inspirations on Etsy, and here is what I found....  I am going to attempt some of my own for Callan!

Birth Stats

Callan Kae Blair was born 2 weeks and 3 days before her due date on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 7:29 am, which makes her a Pices and her birthstone aquamarine, just like her mommy.

Weight: 8 lbs.

Height: 20.5 inches

After two weeks she has gained 3.5 ounces.   She doesn't seem to fit into her newborn clothes and is a bit small for the 0-3 month size.  She sleeps about 3 hours at a time and seems to only cry when she is hungry.  She is taking about 4 ounces of formula each feeding.  Our favorite thing to do is watch all the funny faces she makes.  Daddy's favorite thing to do with Callan is tummy time, she is already lifting her head and pushing up a bit with her arms!

Four Generations

Twenty-Eight years ago this picture was taken after I was born.  It has my dad on the right, my Gran-Gran (dad's dad) on the left and holding me in the middle is my great grandpa Scott.  I have always had this picture close to me and had it printed and framed to hang in our living room.  After finding out I was pregnant all I wanted was to recreate this picture.  This past weekend my grandparents had the chance to meet their first great grandchild and I got the picture I have been wanting.  Even though our positions in the picture have changed, it is still about capturing four generations at once, which I know is a blessing that some do not get to experience.

Callan's Nursery

I'm loving everything about how the room has come together.  All the inspirations with personal touches throughout.  The room has a vintage and modern feel, from the thrifty furniture finds to the contemporary brushed metal accents.  It still reads baby girl without being covered in "blush and bashful", or pink on pink for those who aren't Steel Magnolia fans.  Color is my thing, so I wanted a lot of bold, bright and unexpected colors.
We hope Callan loves it as much as we do.  It won't feel complete until she's here.
Thanks to everyone who helped us pull it all together! Especially My mom for all the custom bedding and curtains, and to Ryan's Dad for the help building and painting all the furniture.

My Birdie Mobile

Finished Furniture

Crib Bedding

The completed crib bedding including the custom bumper pads piped in red, two fitted sheets and the crib skirt.

The Quilt

The finished quilt by my mom.  From the fabric collection "It's a Hoot" by Momo.  Block pattern trimmed in red to complement the pop of red throughout the nursery.

Finished Hoops

Here is the finished product of my embroidery hoops.  Making them was the easy part, hanging them from the ceiling was not so easy.  We used small cup hooks screwed into the ceiling.  Four pieces of fishing line were strung from each hoop and tied.  The knot was hung from the hook.  Good balance and a little luck are keeping them as level as possible.  Some of the fabrics used were not a part of the collection and were found at a quilting store in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Owl Art

The custom art is by yours truly. Simple, cheap and easy, I just covered old paintings with the coordinating fabric scraps from the collection, stretched and stapled to the back.  I found an image online of a cute owl, enlarged and printed it.  I then cut out the positive space to create my own stencil, taped the stencil to each canvas and painted them.
